Four Middle Georgia counties investigating possibly related burglaries
The Telfair County Sheriff Chris Steverson said recent burglaries in his area have similarities to other burglaries in surrounding counties. Steverson is investigating 6 burglaries that have the same pattern. He explained the suspects are targeting homes during the day because that is when people are usually at work. Burglars will knock and have a brief conversation if someone answers the door before leaving. The suspects offer to do yard work for the homeowner. Steverson said the suspects are taking guns, computers and jewelry. He noticed the burglary pattern during September.
The Telfair County Sheriff’s Office has put together a task force with the McCrae-Helena Police Department, the Department of Community Supervisors, Georgia Department of Natural Resources and Georgia State Patrol. They are doing more road checks and increasing patrols.
Dodge County Sheriff Lynn Sheffield confirms his office is investigating 3 burglaries that he believes could be connected to the burglaries in neighboring counties. He said his investigators are still running down leads.
Captain Stan Wright with the Lauren’s County Sheriff’s Office said they are investigating 3 burglaries and 1 attempted burglary that they believe are related to the other counties burglaries. They started on September 8 and were all in the south end of the county. Captain Wright said they are increasing patrols in that area and talking with the other sheriff’s offices regularly.
