Fossils and relics identified during Fort Hawkins “ID Day”

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – People who enjoy finding artifacts and civil war memorabilia got a chance to have their items identified Saturday.

It was the first time Fort Hawkins Identification Day was held in the visitors center’s log cabin.

The event allowed time for members of the Ocmulgee Archaeological Society to identify and document Native American and other artifacts.

“Today, we have all kinds of things coming in,” says Fort Hawkins Program Director, Marty Willett. “We’ve seen some amazing items already.”

The event is part of the Society for Georgia Archaeology’s Georgia’s Archaeology Month.
