Fort Valley Mayor, Council Members Sworn In

FORT VALLEY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Fort Valley’s first mayor in 16 years took her oath of office this evening.

Mayor-elect Barbara Williams was sworn in during a ceremony at City Hall.

About 60 people packed into the council chambers to watch Williams and other council members take their oaths of office.

Williams said she hopes she will help Fort Valley take advantage of the resources it already has.

Her goal is to make the future bright for her city.

“This is a monumental time for me in that I’ve been on the City Council for 16 years, and we’ve worked real hard alongside the present Mayor in doing what needed to be done for the city of Fort Valley,” said Williams. “I still believe in the progress for the city of Fort Valley. I feel like there are things that still need to be done, and I believe in doing my service.”

Williams went on to say she is very grateful for the support she received tonight, and added it will be a team effort to reach success in Fort Valley.
