FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The City of Forsyth issued a public notice on Friday asking its customers to conserve water due to high water demand and lack of rainfall, according to a post on the city’s Facebook page.

H2O Innovation, which manages Forsyth’s water supply, says increased demand has depleted reserves in the municipal storage tanks, necessitating these measures to avoid low water pressure and possible water outages.

Residents with a water meter from the City of Forsyth are asked to comply with specific guidelines.

The request permits outdoor watering for purposes of planting, growing, managing, or maintaining ground cover, trees, shrubs, or other plants only between the hours of 4 p.m. and 10 a.m. for anyone whose water is supplied by a water system permitted by the Environmental Protection Division.

Outdoor water use for purposes other than watering plants, such as power washing or washing cars, is restricted to an odd/even watering schedule. Odd-numbered addresses can water on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, while even-numbered addresses can water on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

According to City Manager Craig Mims, officials have not yet determined how the limits on water use will be enforced. He adds the city does not believe the shortage is linked to issues with old water lines or leaks at the moment.

This summer, Mims recommends using gray water and rain barrels to keep water use low.
