Railway crossing closures begin in Forsyth for safety improvements
GDOT says Norfolk Southern Railway is replacing rails at the crossings.

FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Drivers in Monroe County should expect detours this week and next as railway crossing work closes parts of State Route 83/SR 42 and Tift College Drive.
According to a news release from the Georgia Department of Transportation, Norfolk Southern Railway is replacing rails at the crossings. The Tift College Drive crossing are closing Wednesday and Thursday, September 10 and 11, and the SR 83/SR 42 (North Lee Street) crossing will close Monday and Tuesday, September 15 and 16. Each closure will run from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office provided the detour routes, GDOT said. Those are pictured at the bottom of this story. Warning signs are posted in advance of the work.
“Drivers are encouraged to drive alertly through the area and reduce their speeds,” GDOT said in the release.
The closures are part of safety improvements at the crossings.
