Former NFL players coach local kids at free ‘Kids and Pros’ football clinic

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – NFL pros came back to give back on Wednesday at the Kids and Pros Clinic in Warner Robins.

“We’re pretty much taking the guys out of the community… teaching them the fundamentals of football and we’re also teaching them citizenship,” said ‘pro’ coach Renotto Solomon.

The name of the game is football, but scoring a touchdown isn’t the only way the boys are encouraged to earn points.

“We have five core principles: sportsmanship, integrity, excellence, perseverance, and teamwork so we thread that in everything that we do,” said Executive Director Buddy Curry.

Curry says it isn’t all about athleticism. It’s also about attitude–and getting kids to have the right attitude starts with mentoring.

“Some of these guys really want to get involved with the kids in terms of helping mentor them and helping them get through the tough times in their lives,” said Curry.

Every drill, every activity and every game played is an outlet for boys who may not have one anywhere else.

“You might not have a father at home, but you have guys in the community that you can talk to and look up to,” said Solomon.

For these former ballers, football isn’t about the money at all–it’s about paying it forward.
