Former Macon-Bibb mayoral candidate Shekita Maxwell arrested after ‘domestic disturbance’ involving daughter
Shekita Maxwell, a recent Macon-Bibb mayoral candidate, was arrested on Tuesday following a "domestic disturbance" involving her daughter last month.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Shekita Maxwell, a recent Macon-Bibb mayoral candidate, was arrested Tuesday night following a “domestic disturbance” involving her daughter last month.
According to a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office incident report, on June 24 at about 10 p.m., deputies responded to a home on Atwood Drive after a report of a domestic dispute. Upon arrival, deputies met with Maxwell’s daughter, who had visible injuries, including a bleeding wound to her head.
Maxwell’s 23-year-old daughter told the responding deputy her mother had attacked her.
According to the report, Maxwell entered her daughter’s room and demanded she start cleaning up. The situation escalated, and according to Maxwell’s daughter, her mother dragged her through the house by the hair into the bathroom and slammed her head into the toilet several times.
The report also says Maxwell’s daughter accused her mother of throwing her cell phone into the yard “so that she could not call for law enforcement and/or emergency assistance.”
According to the report, Maxwell’s mother was not at the home at the time of the incident but later told deputies her daughter “has been having issues” over the past several months and “as part of prior court order Ms. Shekita Maxwell is suppose to be getting counseling for her anger issues.”
Maxwell, who was charged with battery, interfering with calls for emergency assistance and false imprisonment, was a candidate in the May election for Macon-Bibb Mayor but lost by a wide margin to incumbent Lester Miller.
Deputies say she is still in custody.
