Former Falcons linebacker hosts youth football camp in Warner Robins
Buddy Curry played linebacker for the Atlanta Falcons in the 1980s. He, along with several other former NFL players, team up with Kids & Pros, Inc. each year for a series of summer camps all over the southeast. Curry is currently the head master trainer for USA Football’s “Heads Up Football” program.
Like many camps, this one at Tanner Park teaches the game’s fundamentals. The focus here though is on proper tackling techniques to avoid injuries like concussions.
“People need to first understand what’s a concussion,” Curry says. “What do you do if there’s a suspected concussion event, and where do you take these kids and make sure they’re fully recovered before they get back on the field or the court?”
The camp included a parent workshop several hundred yards away from where the kids were learning. The workshop taught parents the warning signs of a concussion and what to do in the case they think their child has one.
The camp wraps up Thursday with an awards ceremony at Rigby’s Entertainment Complex.
