Former candidate Don Druitt endorses Joe Allen in upcoming District 6 county commission runoff
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A former candidate for the District 6 county commissioner race is now endorsing his one-time opponent.
Don Druitt, who is also the former Bibb County Emergency Management Agency director, says he’s now backing Joe Allen for the contested position.
“Joe and I have talked about the way forward for the district and the concern of the district not being represented over the last three years during consolidation,” Druitt said.
Druitt made his announcement with Joe Allen at his side while standing at the entrance to McKinley Drive in Macon, one of many roads Allen believes should be paved.
“The road, as you can tell, this road needs paving,” Allen added. “And since the city has taken over through consolidation, that was one of their main stays, making all roads being paved.”
Other roads he’d like to pave include Pamela Court, Ester Jones Road, Old Columbus Road, and Pleasant Grove Road.
Aside from upgrades to the area’s roads, Allen says he’s also concerned about increasing blight, as well as abandoned property being used as illegal dumping grounds.
Druitt continued, “Hopefully, my endorsement will help Joe regain his seat as commissioner of District 6 to get the effective representation we need in Lizella and the area of District 6.”
“I want to thank Don for supporting me and backing me in this upcoming election,” Allen said.
Joe Allen and current seat holder Ed Defore will run against each other in the general primary runoff, which takes place next Tuesday, July 26th.
