First Lady Sandra Deal helps kick-off the Georgia Food Bank Association’s Summer Meals Program

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – First Lady Sandra Deal visited the Mulberry Street Market at Tattnall Square Park for the Summer Meals Kick-Off Event on Wednesday.

The event gave community members an opportunity to see the effects that the Summer Meals Program has on Macon’s underprivileged youth.

“We want our children to be taken care of,” Deal said. “We want them to be healthy, to grow up strong, and to be safe and to be well-fed.”

The Georgia Food Bank Association, along with its many partners, hosted the event.

Nine people, including a representative from the USDA and the Bibb County school system, spoke at the news conference that highlighted the successes and goals of the community program.

Children in attendance at the kick-off got a chance to enjoy various activities, and anyone under the age of 18 had the chance to receive a free meal of salad, cheese, and fruit slices.
