Macon-Bibb Fire Department demonstrates fire safety

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — As we head into Fall and temperatures drop, the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department wants to ensure and promote fire safety.

The fire safety education team demonstrated Wednesday to show how burning outdoors can cause problems.

Fire Safety Educator Jeremy Webb says more residents are having bonfires, using their fireplaces, or burning yard debris this time of year.

Webb says they want to let residents know about the end of the 2020 burn ban and bring awareness to Fire Prevention Month.

“As we approach October 1, we’re going to lift the statewide burn ban,” Webb said. “So we’re going to give permits for outdoor burning.”

The Fire Department also wants everyone to have a working smoke detector. Also, if you do not have a smoke detector, a fire department employee will come to your home, install one and test it for you.
