Man killed, two airlifted after crash at Highway 22 and 24 in Baldwin County

Troopers say a driver failed to yield while turning onto Highway 22, causing a crash that killed one man and seriously injured two others.

BALDWIN COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — One man died and two others were seriously injured after a crash Monday afternoon in Baldwin County, according to Georgia State Patrol.

GSP says the crash happened around 4:53 p.m. on Georgia Highway 22 at the intersection of Georgia Highway 24. Investigators say a 2017 Chevrolet Traverse was turning onto Highway 22 and failed to yield, causing a 2006 Lincoln Zephyr traveling east on Highway 22 to hit the front left side of the Chevrolet.

After the crash, both vehicles came to an uncontrolled rest in the north ditch of Highway 22, according to GSP.

The driver of the Lincoln, identified as 47-year-old James Chester of Sparta, was taken to Atrium Health Baldwin, where he died.

Troopers say the driver of the Chevrolet, 83-year-old Pearl Kiefer of Milledgeville, and her passenger, 84-year-old James Kiefer, were flown to Atrium Health Navicent Medical Center in Macon with serious injuries.
