Fatal accident shuts down Sardis Church Road for hours

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Macon man died in a car crash Tuesday morning just blocks away from his home.

Cody Lee Thigpen, 30, died at the scene of the car crash, according to Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

The accident happened around 10 a.m. at the intersection of Sardis Church Road and the I-75 north ramp.

Carol Ward-Braswell, 42, of Macon was making a left turn from Sardis Church Road to the entrance ramp of Interstate 75 when she was hit by Thigpen’s white Mitsubishi Mirage.

Thigpen was heading east on Sardis Church Road.

The collision caused the Chevrolet to spin around and the Mitsubishi flipped several times before coming to a complete stop.

Witnesses told deputies Ward-Braswell had the green light during the accident.

Thigpen lost control of his car and spun sideways.

Ward-Braswell nor the child riding with her were injured.

Sardis Church Road was closed for nearly two hours after the accident.
