Famous Local Restaurant in Financial Jeopardy

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – One of Macon’s hometown favorites is at risk of shutting their doors.

H&H restaurant has been around for more than five decades dishing up Southern classics to the community, and to celebrities friends, like the Allman Brothers.

After the federal economic crash during 2007, the small business saw a decline in profits, and still has yet to recover. 

Manager Javoski Harden grew up in the family business, and says he never thought they would be in jeopardy of losing their business.

“Last year was pretty much the lowest our business has ever been,” Harden says,  “right now we’re in the process of rejuvenating it.”

“We took a major hit in our family…” Harden says, “my great-great grandmother, which was one of the owners, passed in 2007…that hit also trickled into our business.”

The landmark’s customers say if the business closes its doors, it will be a community loss.

Customer Angela Gibbs has been coming to the resturants since it first opened its doors, and says she has always been a fan of their food, and the family owners.

“I’ve been coming for years. I got sick, and was on diaylsis, so I stopped coming for awhile. Then, I started coming back, but I’ve always patronized Mama Louise,” says Gibbs.

Harden says H&H hopes “customers are aware of the fact that they are not just customers, but they are also family.”

He also hopes supporters understand they are working on customer service, and planning to revamp their menu. 

Currently, the doors are still open, and the owners invite you to eat at their restaurant to help support their business.
