Family holds 4th Annual Domestic Violence Awareness Walk for woman who was killed by boyfriend

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) -A family continues to remember a woman whose life was taken due to an act of domestic violence.

Friends and family of La’Smockie Fountain say she had a contagious smile, she was a wonderful mother to her four kids, a great friend, and daughter.

Fountain was killed by her boyfriend in May of 2015.

Her family says the 4th Annual Domestic Violence Awareness Walk in her honor is to remind others you can get help. Survivor of domestic violence Stephanie Whitehead says always look for the warning signs.

“Checking their phones 100 times a day, texting you if you don’t answer the phones in a certain period of time, if you’re not home when you’re suppose to. Kind of like they got their thumb on you at all times,” she said.

The walk is Saturday at 11 a.m. It will begin and end in the parking lot at the corner of Case Street and Mumford Road.
