Elementary school recovers from vandalism incident

PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Langston Road Elementary School is ready to open its doors to more than 550 students, and 73 staff members in Perry after a vandalism incident earlier this year.

Principal Elgin Mayfield says there is “absolutely no reminiscence of any vandalism that happened in the spring.”

In April, vandals destroyed more than $100,000 worth of appliances.

Mayfield says since security features have been installed in and around the building for extra precaution, he believes the building will be a safe environment for everyone.

“I feel very comfortable that we are extremely safe, and secure not only for the people inside the building, but the building itself,”
says Mayfield.

The school principal say his concerns are now focused on making sure plans runs smoothly, and everyone enjoys the first day back in the new facility.

“I’m looking forward to that very first announcement when I say good morning Langston Road Elementary Road stallions. I’m so looking forward to doing that.”

Houston County students return to class on July 31.
