ORIGINAL STORY (1/26/26):

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Edward C. Foster has launched a campaign for the District 5 County Commissioner seat and plans to formally announce his candidacy at a public event Tuesday night in Macon.

According to a news release from Foster’s campaign, the announcement is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Mattie Hubbard Park.

The release says Foster is running on a platform that includes accountability, public safety and responsive local government. During the event, Foster plans to outline his vision for strengthening neighborhoods, improving county services and promoting responsible use of taxpayer dollars.

“District 5 deserves leadership that is present, accessible, and focused on real solutions,” Foster said in the release. “I’m running to make sure people are first and our voices are heard, our neighborhoods are prioritized, and our tax dollars are used responsibly.”

Mattie Hubbard Park is located at 1944 Second Avenue in Macon.

The District 5 seat has been open since the resignation earlier this month of Seth Clark, who stepped down to run for lieutenant governor. Andrea Cooke previously announced her candidacy.

The Macon-Bibb County Commission called for a special election on March 17.
