UPDATE: Deputies make arrest in east Macon shooting that left woman dead, 2-year-old hospitalized
Deputies say the shooting happened Tuesday night on Fulton Street and remains under investigation.

UPDATE (2/10 – 11:58 p.m.): A 34-year-old man is now charged with murder and aggravated assault after a shooting Tuesday night that left a 28-year-old woman dead and a 2-year-old girl hospitalized.
According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, deputies spoke with a person of interest on scene, later identified as Marquiz Deonte Brooks of Macon.
After further investigation, Brooks was arrested and taken to the Bibb County Jail just before 10 p.m.
He’s being held without bond.
ORIGINAL STORY (2/10 – 10:15 p.m.):
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A 28-year-old woman is dead and her 2-year-old daughter is in the hospital after both were shot Tuesday on Fulton Street in east Macon.
According to a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office news release, deputies were called just before 8:30 p.m. to the 300 block of Fulton Street for a report of a person down. When deputies got there, they found the woman and her daughter with gunshot wounds outside a home.
Paramedics took both victims to a medical facility for treatment, the sheriff’s office said. According to medical staff, the 2-year-old girl is listed in stable condition. The adult woman, later identified by deputies as Ayana Smith, later died at the hospital.
The shooting remains under investigation.
