MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – An early Sunday morning apartment fire in east Macon is still under investigation.

According to Macon-Bibb County Fire Department Chief Shane Edwards, crews responded to a fire at River Park Apartment Homes on Tidewater Circle just before 3 a.m.

Edwards says crews arrived to find heavy flames on both the first and second floors of one of the buildings. He says at least one of the units is believed to have been under renovation.

“We were a little bit worried about people being in there that might shouldn’t be,” he said.

He says crews started an evacuation process and worked to ensure no one was inside any of the affected homes.

“They are in the process of doing remodels on certain buildings and certain apartments, so sometimes that’s what happens,” he said.

Edwards said no residents or firefighters were hurt.

41NBC’s Bre’Anna Sheffield is at the scene and will have additional coverage Monday night on 41NBC News.
