Drug agents converge on Middle Georgia counties in search of marijuana fields

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Federal, state and county law enforcement agencies joined forces to wipe out marijuana fields in Middle Georgia, Thursday.

The Georgia Governor’s Task Force is searching for marijuana fields in rural counties.

Law enforcement agencies, including the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration, Georgia State Patrol, the Georgia National Guard, the Georgia Department of natural Resources and the Ocmulgee Drug task Force joined in the search.

Drug agents searched in Baldwin, Washington and Hancock counties looking for plants growing illegally.

The commander of the Ocmulgee Drug Task Force, Wesley Nunn says they are using helicopters to spot the marijuana fields.

“We have approximately nine helicopters flying this week in several counties surrounding Baldwin County,” said Nunn. “Three people were arrested this week, one in Baldwin County and two in Greene County.”

Michael Tucker of baldwin County was arrested Tuesday on drug charges.

Nunn says they found several hundred marijuana plants growing in a field and plants were found behind a home.

Once the marijuana plants are pulled up, they are then gathered for evidence. Then drug agents burn the fields to prevent any new growth of the plants.
