Dozens of Families Wait in Bibb DFCS For Hours Wondering Where Food Stamp Checks Are

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Dozens of people stood in line for hours Tuesday at the Bibb County DFCS Office, waiting to get answers about why they haven’t received their food stamp benefits this month.

Lines, lines and more lines…

That was the story of the day inside Bibb County’s Department of Family and Children Services’ Lobby.

Tired and restless customers waited for hours hoping to find out if they’re going to get a benefit check.

“I have two boys at my home and I have to feed them, that’s my responsibility,” one person said.

Communications Director for DFCS, Susan Boatwright, says Bibb’s offices didn’t effectively notify customers about a renewal process in October.

“The customers either did not receive notification of a need to complete a renewal or the notice that they received was late,” Boatwright said.

“We are making all staff available in the lobby to receive the paperwork that’s needed to reactivate their cases. We will also be working through the weekend to try to get the cases reactivated and to get everyone’s benefits back online as quickly as possible,” Boatwright said.

Annie Gibson waited in the DFCS lobby all day. She says she was on hold on the phone with customer service for two hours and the call repeatedly dropped to complete her renewal and still hasn’t finished the process.

“Don’t give up, you might give out, but don’t give up. What you believe and what’s your right go fight for it, and I’m going to go fight for mine,” Gibson said.

Officials with Bibb’s DFCS offices are working overtime to fix the problem.

Boatwright says if you need to fill out the renewal paperwork you can find in the county offices, or on the renewal website.

She says if the paperwork is complete by November 25th, customers won’t experience any benefit losses.
