Downtown Challenge $3 million grant program to accept ideas from community until September 15th

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – If you’ve got an idea to improve downtown Macon, now is your chance to be heard.

The Community Foundation of Central Georgia announced the second deadline for their Downtown Challenge Tuesday afternoon at the Terminal Station.

The challenge is a three-year, $3 million grant program funding community-driven ideas to improve and transform the downtown core of Macon, and its immediate surrounding areas.

“A great idea is a great idea,” said Alex Leahy, the Program Officer for the Foundation. “We are not looking for anything specific, we don’t have projects in mind [about improving the downtown core].”

“The downtown challenge is your opportunity to think big, to think a little outside the box and try to come up with something transformational for downtown Macon that will help implement the Macon action plan,” she added.

The challenge is open to anyone with an idea, not just residents of Macon or the downtown area.

“This is open to anybody. Anybody who comes through downtown Macon, not just residents,” Leahy said. “There is no defined area as far as where you live, or where you work. If you have an idea for downtown Macon, this is your opportunity.”

The deadline to submit ideas to the foundation is September 15th.

The first deadline for over $3.4 million in grant applications happened on March 15th.
