EMA: Fire destroys old school building in Dooly County
Fire crews from every department in Dooly County responded to the former Jenkins Elementary building Tuesday, according to the Dooly County EMA.

DOOLY COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A fire broke out Tuesday at the old Christian school building in Dooly County, which previously served as Jenkins Elementary, according to the Dooly County Emergency Management Agency (EMA).
In a Facebook post Wednesday, the agency thanked community members and surrounding fire departments for their support during the response to the fire.
“I want to extend a sincere gratitude for the community that came out and brought the firefighters ice cold water, Piggly Wiggly for donating cases of water, and for Cafe 41 for donating sandwiches to the firefighters,” the post said.
The agency said every fire department in Dooly County responded to the scene with personnel and equipment. The City of Cordele Fire Department provided a ladder truck, and Crisp County Fire Department assisted with additional personnel and equipment.
A drone video of the fire, which Dooly County EMA says was shot by Steve Sanders, was posted by the Dooly County Board of Commissioners on YouTube.
At this time, there’s no word on what caused the fire.
