Sheriff: Dodge County deputy injured in crash while responding to call

Georgia State Patrol says the patrol vehicle was traveling on Georgia 126 near East Chicken Road when it left the roadway and struck several trees.

DODGE COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A Dodge County deputy was injured Tuesday morning in a single-vehicle crash while responding to a call, according to Sheriff Brian Robinson.

According to preliminary findings from the Georgia State Patrol, the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle was traveling east on Georgia 126 near East Chicken Road.

GSP says the patrol vehicle was negotiating a right curve when it failed to maintain its lane, traveled off the road and struck several trees on the shoulder. According to GSP, the deputy said he was trying to pick up a piece of equipment from the floorboard when the patrol vehicle ran off the road. Another deputy took him to the hospital.

Robinson said GSP was called to investigate, which is policy whenever a Dodge County deputy is involved in a vehicle crash.
