Subscribers lost access to Disney-owned channels — including ABC, ESPN, and FX — on October 31, after the companies failed to reach a new deal over distribution costs. Both sides have accused the other of being unreasonable in their negotiations.
In another entertainment-meets-tech move, Crypto.com has struck a deal with Hollywood.com to allow users to wager on entertainment events such as movies and awards shows. The new contracts, offered through a CFTC-registered affiliate, will let customers make predictions on categories like best actors, box office results, and film releases.
Meanwhile, Amazon’s layoff of 14,000 employees marks the company’s latest step in cutting costs and “streamlining corporate structure.” The e-commerce and cloud giant joins other major tech firms — including Intel, Microsoft, Panasonic, and Accenture — in a wave of mass layoffs across the sector. According to job tracker TrueUp, more than 175,000 tech workers have lost their jobs in 2025.
And Robinhood is expanding its financial services portfolio through a new partnership with Sage Home Loans, offering Gold subscribers mortgage rates 0.75% below national averages along with a $500 credit. The program, previously piloted earlier this year, is now official and available to the company’s premium members.
