Details on BCSO investigation of man found in West Macon

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A man was found dead in his West Macon home on Monday. With Macon-Bibb now six homicides past the record 20 from last year, authorities are trying to piece together what happened.

“When the Sheriff’s Department and EMS arrived they found a male–a white male–with a lot of blood, and it turned out to be a homicide, so unfortunately that’s 26 homicides in Bibb County,” said Coroner Leon Jones.

Yet another life in Macon-Bibb is gone to gun violence.

“This morning the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office received a call in reference to a person down at 4432 Pharr Avenue,” said BCSO’s Lt. Randy Gonzalez.

The call came in from a friend of the deceased, now identified as 53 year-old Michael Baxley.

“They had tried to make contact with him and (were) unable to make contact by phone, so they came over here to check on him and that’s when they found the person inside the home,” Gonzalez told 41NBC.

When authorities arrived on the scene, they too made the brutal discovery of Baxley’s body.

“It is an active crime scene, and it is a greusome crime scene,” said Jones. “Another ‘black eye’ for Macon-Bibb County–26 homicides. We broke the record from last year by six. It’s a record we don’t need to break but we broke it,” he added.

Investigators say Baxley suffered from multiple gun shot wounds.

“Our investigators are here on scene with our crime lab conducting their investigation just trying to find out what happened here today,” said Gonzalez.

Coroner Leon Jones says the autopsy for Baxley’s body should be complete by Tuesday morning.
