Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Amanda Duffy outlines her platform for Georgia Governor
Amanda Duffy, who describes herself as a working-class mother “in financial survival mode,” says her campaign is centered on representing families who feel left behind by traditional politics. Unlike many candidates with political or corporate backgrounds, Duffy says her lived experience is what sets her apart.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Amanda Duffy, democratic candidate for governor of Georgia is making her case to voters, despite facing long odds in a crowded and competitive race.
“All Georgians deserve the opportunity to thrive, not just survive,” Duffy says, a message that anchors her campaign.
Duffy’s platform focuses heavily on economic issues, including restructuring Georgia’s current flat income tax into a progressive system. She argues that the existing structure disproportionately impacts working- and middle-class families while benefiting higher earners.
Her proposals also include raising the state’s minimum wage, expanding Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, and addressing rising prescription drug costs through legislative efforts and potential importation programs.
On education, Duffy is advocating for changes to public school curriculum, including adding social-emotional learning to address bullying and improving classroom environments for both students and teachers. She also wants to explore expanding access to Georgia’s pre-K program to ensure more children are prepared before entering kindergarten.
Duffy is also taking positions that could prove controversial. She has proposed a statewide moratorium on the construction of data centers, citing concerns about environmental impact and rising utility costs for residents. At the same time, she says she wants to reform how infrastructure projects are handled, including opening up more opportunities for local contractors.
Despite her policy proposals, Duffy faces significant challenges. She currently trails in polling and lacks the financial backing and name recognition of more established candidates in the race.
When asked about her path forward, Duffy maintains that her campaign is focused on connecting directly with voters who feel underrepresented.
She also acknowledges that pushing major policy changes like tax reform and Medicaid expansion would require bipartisan cooperation in Georgia’s Republican-led legislature, something that has historically been difficult to achieve.
Still, Duffy insists her campaign is about changing the conversation and offering a different perspective.
“I’m not the stereotypical candidate, and that’s exactly why I’m running,” she says.
As the race for governor continues to take shape, candidates like Duffy are working to carve out their place in the political landscape, and convince voters they offer a vision worth supporting.
