DECISION 2013: District 4 Candidate Ussery Wants to Bring Positive Atmosphere to Commission
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — He’s been out of the political arena for quite some time, but Theron Ussery says people with proven leadership need to run the new Macon-Bibb Commission.
Ussery is running for commissioner of District 4.
“With the mandates put on the new charter, there’s a lot of work to do… and I feel like I can work with anybody,” said Ussery.
He says Macon and Bibb County elected officials have not always been seen in the best of light, and it’s time to turn that around. Ussery believes that will bring business to the area.
“We’ve got to bring respect and dignity back to our local elected officials that helps as far attracting industry to know we got our act together,” said Ussery.
As far as District 4 is concerned, Ussery would focus on making it safer.
“Crime is creeping into all the areas… that’s one thing we’ve got to deal with… I think people want a safe environment,” said Ussery.
But, he doesn’t believe the new commission should micro-manage law enforcement.
Instead, he thinks the government should make sure the sheriff’s department has the support and resources it needs to be successful.
Ussery is a Macon native. He previously served on Macon city council from 1976-1995.
