DECISION 2013: As District 4 Commissioner Olson Would Work to Tackle Youth Violence

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Macon city council woman Beverly Olson knows starting a new government from scratch is going to be tough, but she’s up for the challenge.

She wants to serve as the commissioner for District 4.

“I think the budgeting is going to be probably the hardest,” said Olson.

In an interview with 41NBC, she talked about her experience on council’s appropriations committee saying that will help guide her through the task of reducing the new government’s budget by 5% each year starting in 2015.

When it comes to top priorities, Olson says youth violence is a big one in her district, and throughout the city and county.

“The relieving of Gangs… We’re having a terrible problem,” said Olson.

She believes that goes hand-in-hand with recreation. She thinks there’s just not enough options for the citizens of Macon and Bibb County.

“We have people that don’t have places to go, children that don’t have places to study,” said Olson.

Olson was elected to Macon City council in 2011. She currently serves on the community resources and development, and the appropriations committees.
