Daughter Gets Surprise Reunion, Air Force Mother Returns Home

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – One second grader at Vineville Academy got the surprise of a lifetime today.

Her mother and Air Force Tech Sergeant Jocelyn Foster planned to surprise her daughter Kambria Foster during school hours after six months of being oversees in Southeast Asia.

It was a day filled with many emotions as Foster describes. The sergeant flew in earlier today, and did not stop until she could see her daughter.

“I’m excited. I’m emotional. I’m overwhelmed with joy, because she thinks I’m at work in Asia right now, and she has no earthly idea that I’m here,” says Foster.

The anticipation grew as Foster, her family members and other servicemen and women crept behind Kambria’s class during story time in the media center.

“She’s endured a whole lot this last six months with being gone for the summer time, so I’m excited for her and this will be something she’ll never forget,” says Foster.

Foster’s colleagues and the faculty at the school were in on the big secret as the assistant principal Kristy Graham purposely interrupted story time to ask the children a question.

“Do you know anybody that’s in the military?” Graham asked the kids.

A few hands went up-Kambria’s included.

Looking at Graham, Kambria responded by saying “my mom.”

She expected her mother’s arrival on Thursday.

Before Kambria could finish her response to Graham’s questions, her mother walked in with arms open, and a handful of balloons.

“I felt happy, sad and surprised,” says Kambria.

Now that her mother is home, Kambria has activities lined up just for the two of them.

“Don’t let her sleep, aggravate her and have fun with her,” she says.

Foster says she will be station in middle Georgia until she is required to relocate again.
