Dash cam video captures veteran’s simple gift for police officer

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Dash cam video from a Warner Robins police car caught an exchange of gratitude between a veteran and Officer Josh Wilcox as he was directing traffic last week.

Wilcox called it a moment of brotherhood.

“I heard a gentleman say watch your six. That means someones approaching from the rear,” Officer Wilcox said. “So I looked back over my shoulder and there’s a gentleman walking into the intersection.”

Officer Wilcox said the unidentified veteran offered a quick message and two cold drinks.

“He walked up to me, shook my hand and said thank you and be safe, and turned around and started to walk back out of the intersection,” Wilcox said.

In a text message to 41NBC, the man said he didn’t want any attention. To him, it was just a simple act of kindness.

But to Officer Wilcox, it meant a lot more, especially coming from a veteran.

“Thank you,” Wilcox said. “It was hot out there. It’s nice to have somebody looking out for you.”

Upon returning to his patrol car from directing traffic in front of Huntington Middle School, Wilcox had an ice cold Powerade and water waiting for him.

“It was nice when I got back to the car where the air conditioner was and have something cold to drink. That was great.”
