Cremated remains found in an abandoned storage unit

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- Boxes of cremated human remains were found in an abandoned storage unit at U-Stor-It in Macon.

“A man by the name of Charles Rykard was occupying the unit,” store owner James McDonald recalled. “I gave him a full year to pay rent but he never came back.”

McDonald told us he is not surprised with people leaving their units, but finding the ashes seemed odd.  He couldn’t get in contact with Rykard, but he kept the remains in hopes of one day he would come back for them.

McDonald is planning to give the remains to the Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

“Out of respect to the family, I hope the coroner can find them,” McDonald explained.

Jones claimed he cannot identify the body.
