Crawford County seniors enjoy newly renovated senior center
ROBERTA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Seniors in Crawford County have a newly painted and renovated senior center to enjoy.
“Well I just love it and it’s beautiful,” said senior Wilhelmenia Raines.
Beauty comes in many colors.
“And it’s just gorgeous,” said Raines.
For the Crawford County seniors, the beauty is in making bead jewelry, doing word searches and meeting new friends in their newly renovated senior center.
“I have to do something every night to keep my sanity,”said Raines. “We are enjoying it, and we love coming here and fellowshipping with other people.”
Raines couldn’t believe the news a few months ago.
“I said Lord have mercy, what are we going to do now?” said Raines.
A frozen pipe broke in January, flooding the center and causing nearly 40,000 dollars in repairs.
“We were out a few months, but I prayed everything would be alright, which it did,” said Raines.
During their time away from their second home, the seniors spent time at the Peach County Senior Center.
“Now we have a place of ours to come back to,” said senior Christie Ware. “It’s just wonderful, Peach County welcomed us like we were part of their family.”
Ware knows how important the center is.
“Because without this, some people would not have food,” said Ware. “They wouldn’t have a meal. They provide a meal here, and somewhere to go.”
And if you need somewhere to go–head over to the senior center.
“C’mon down, bring everybody with you,” said Ware. “We’ve got plenty of room, if not we’ll make room!”
And make a little beauty along the way.
The seniors celebrated the opening last week, and are adding picnic tables outside to have cookouts.
