Crawford County paying private coroners to help deputy coroner

ROBERTA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Crawford County is reaching out to two private coroners, to assist its deputy coroner if he needs any help.

The county manager tells 41NBC, they will get $175 per call. This comes after coroner Allen O’Neal was arrested in May. He was charged with violating his oath of office, for choosing not to respond to a death call.

A judge isn’t allowing O’Neal to go out on calls or communicate with the deputy coroner, but he is still getting paid.

The DA says he expects the case to go in front of grand jury this month.
