Macon church offers free COVID-19 tests

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The Community Empowerment Center in the Bloomfield community, along with the Community Church of God, is offering free COVID-19 and antibody tests on Tuesday.

Pastor Jason McClendon says whether people have symptoms or not, they need to know if they have the virus.

“We need numbers in Macon that are going to help us to be able to open our churches again and on top of that we want Maconites to be safe,” he said.

Testing is from 10 a.m until 2 p.m at the Community Church of God on Bethesda Avenue in Macon.

McClendon says they’re having another drive-thru testing on Saturday. The Middle Georgia Community Food Bank will also hand out a box of food.

A number of churches in Macon plan to expand testing Saturday, but they need healthcare workers to administer the tests. Organizers ask anyone who is qualified administer the test, email their resume’ to admin@maconcommunity.church.

McClendon says they are willing to pay healthcare workers.
