Cottonmouths beat Mayhem for first win of season
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Macon Mayhem fell to rival Columbus Sunday in a game that was decided by a shootout.
It was the Cottonmouths’ first win of the season and first win against their rival after going 0-2 in their first two tries.
After a scoreless first period, Kyle Shapiro put Columbus (1-4-3) on the board early in the second period. Macon (2-4-3) answered with goals from Mark McGowan and Shawn Skelly to take the lead.
Early in the third, Chris Rial tied the game and it remained 2-2 until the end of regulation.
At the end of overtime, the game was still tied, which forced the shootout.
The Mayhem returns to the ice Saturday at home against Fayetteville. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
