UPDATE: New information Bibb deputy shoots, kills man

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Special Agent In Charge at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation tells 41NBC that a few Bic lighters and a pack of Ramen Noodles was found near the body Larry Daniel Matthews.

Coroner Leon Jones says a Bibb County Sheriff’s deputy has shot and killed a man.  It happened Friday afternoon near 570 Colquitt Street.

According to Jones, 55 year old Larry Daniel Matthews was killed around 2:30 this afternoon.

Officials from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office say deputy Gregg Ussery  approached Matthews after he allegedly shoplifted some items from a store a few blocks away.

According to witnesses, the man reportedly stole something from the Family Dollar on Eisenhower Parkway.

Authorities said when Deputy Ussery confronted Matthews the suspect began to fight with the deputy. The deputy tazed Matthews, then shot him in the chest.

Bibb County Sheriff David Davis said the deputy was forced to shoot Matthews after he took the deputy’s pepper spray and used it on him.
