Coroner: Second stabbing in two days at Macon’s Central State Prison results in another death

It's the second stabbing death involving an inmate at the Fulton Mill Road prison in two days. 28-year-old Hollis Bryant was killed after being stabbed early Sunday morning.

UPDATE (8:30 p.m.) – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) confirmed the death of Marquis Johnson Monday night.

Johnson was sentenced to 20 years out of Muscogee County for Armed Robbery, with a maximum release date of July 2037,” Joan Heath, the director of the GDC’s Office of Public Affairs said.

Heath said Johnson’s body has been turned over to the coroner and transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Crime Lab to determine an official cause of death.

“The death is being investigated by the GDC’s Office of Professional Standards, as standard procedure; therefore, additional details are not available, as the investigation is ongoing,” Heath wrote.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – An inmate died Monday after being stabbed at Central State Prison.

That’s according to Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones, who identified the man who died as 26-year-old Marquis Johnson. He says Johnson was stabbed around 3:30 p.m. and was pronounced dead at Atrium Health Navicent at 4:37 p.m.
