Coroner: Pedestrian dies after being hit by mail truck in Macon
A pedestrian was struck by a mail truck Friday morning at the intersection of Vineville Avenue and Ridge Avenue and died about four hours later, according to Coroner Leon Jones.

UPDATE (1/20/25): Macon-Bibb Coroner Leon Jones is asking for help finding the family of the man killed Friday morning.
It’s not standard practice to release names before notifying family, but Jones made an exception, identifying the man as 53-year-old Benny Lewis Rawlins.

UPDATE (1/10/25): The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said in an update Friday afternoon that medical staff reported the death was a result of “medical reasons unrelated to the traffic collision.”

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A pedestrian was struck by a mail truck Friday morning at the intersection of Vineville Avenue and Ridge Avenue and died about four hours later, according to Coroner Leon Jones.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said the man was standing in the middle of the road when he was hit. The collision happened at 6:54 a.m., and the pedestrian was pronounced dead at Atrium Health Navicent at 10:38 a.m., Jones said.
We’re withholding the victim’s name until next of kin is notified. Jones says anyone with information about the victim’s family is asked to call Deputy Coroner Luann Stone at (478) 733-3068.
The sheriff’s office said the mail truck driver stopped after the collision. No charges have been filed at this time.
