Two people are dead after a tornado in Wheeler County Thursday night.

WHEELER COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Two people are dead after a tornado in Wheeler County Thursday night.

That’s according to Coroner Ted Mercer, who said when reached by phone he wasn’t able to share further information at this time.

We’ve also reached out to the Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office and Wheeler County Emergency Management Agency.

A tornado warning was issued for Wheeler County just after 8:45 Thursday night as Hurricane Helene made its way toward the northern Florida coast and into Georgia.
