Cooler conditions coming for Middle Georgia as Hurricane Milton churns in the Gulf of Mexico

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Despite the warm start to the new week temperatures will begin to cool some as it goes on.
This Evening
A mostly sunny afternoon will give way to a clear and calm night around Middle Georgia. Winds will be light and variable as temperatures drop into the lower 60s. These lows will still be a few degrees above average for this time of year, but it should feel less muggy tonight.
Tomorrow
Tuesday will be sunny and near average in terms of temperatures around Middle Georgia. Outside of a few mid-level clouds in the afternoon skies should stay clear. Highs will reach the low to mid 80s as wind blows out of the northeast at 6-12 mph, gusting upwards of 18 mph.
Overnight conditions will also be clear and also a bit cooler than recent nights. Lows will drop into the upper 50s and lower 60s as the wind continues out of the northeast.
The Tropics
Hurricane Leslie continues to churn in the Atlantic Basin. It is expected to turn north and avoid a North American landfall.
Less than 2 weeks after Hurricane Helene there is another storm in the Gulf of Mexico. Hurricane Milton is a Category 5 storm packing 175 mph sustained winds in its eyewall. That is the equivalent of an EF4 tornado. Milton is expected to move east-northeast until it makes landfall on the western side of the Florida Peninsula, likely near the Tampa area. Some weakening is expected ahead of landfall thanks to increased wind shear in the eastern Gulf.
Regardless of what intensity Milton has at landfall, it is this storm moving through Florida that will bring cooler conditions to the Peach State. Wind will be out of the northeast until landfall, and more due north after landfall. Sunny skies will accompany these winds.
