Construction to begin on destroyed Hancock courthouse
SPARTA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Leaders in Hancock County say after months of planning, they are ready to rebuild the county’s courthouse.
In August, the courthouse caught fire and was destroyed.
Allen Haywood with the Sparta-Hancock County Development Authority says leaders have raised more than $6 million for the project.
Haywood adds plans are for the courthouse to look the same on the exterior, but to be completely up to date on the inside. Construction is set to begin on January 5th.
Officials are planning an ash throwing ceremony to signify the start of the project.
