Construction begins on new Bibb County elementary school

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bibb County is getting a new elementary school.

Crews started demolition at Morgan Elementary on Thursday. The school was built in the 1960’s. School officials said they tried to keep it modern, but it was cheaper to build a new school. Construction workers are laying the foundation for the new school while demolishing the old one.

“This will be a two story building. It’s going to have a gymnasium, an adequate size media center, a cafeteria, as well as your art and music rooms. We’re going to have 49 instructional units go into this location for the classrooms,” explained the Executive Director for Capital Programs, Jason Daniel.

ESPLOST dollars are paying for the nearly $17 million project. The school board plans to open Veterans Elementary in August 2016.
