Community Parties with Politicians at 6th Annual Warner Robins HobNob
WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Thursday night, community members and business leaders got the chance to party with the politicians in Warner Robins.
At the Robins Regional Chamber of Commerce 6th annual HobNob, three U.S. Senate candidates, and several people vying for local offices mixed and mingled, and of course talked politics.
This was the second year Billy Fortenberry attended the HobNob. He was there to network and support his friend, Warner Robins Mayor Chuck Shaheen, in his run for Warner Robins Council Post 1.
Fortenberry was interested in hearing from all the candidates, and
talked about what he’d like to see the new leaders focus on when they take office.”W
e need more industry. We need to be diversified. We need a mayor that’s going to bring the city together, that has a strong vision. That has a strong moral character,” said Fortenberry.Morgan Law, the president and CEO of Robins Regional, estimates this year’s crowd was around 250.
“I think folks have fun hearing the political speeches and they’re short. We keep em short… we’ve got some great food, and some great entertainment and it’s a fun evening all around,” said Law.
This year’s straw poll had three questions: Who do you want as the next mayor of Warner Robins? What’s one issue you want addressed that doesn’t involve Robins Air Force Base? Who’s going to win the SEC championship this year?
Law admits, as a Georgia alum, the last question might have been his idea.
He said the audience voted for Chuck Chalk as the next mayor, an overwhelming majority want to see a skilled workforce in the area, and Georgia will win the SEC championship.
Law wants to remind everyone, the audience could vote as many times as they wanted in the straw poll, and it was all in good fun!
