Commissioners encouraging ‘peace week’ in Macon

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Several Macon-Bibb commissioner are teaming up with one group looking to bring peace to the county.

Commissioners Al Tillman and Virgil Watkins say Macon Peace is a way for young people to do something positive during spring break. While students are off next week, the group is challenging students to a peace week where they’re invited to attend different events at the Buck Melton Center and use the hashtag #MaconPeace.

“You know instead of being something negative, it’s just something positive — you know Macon Peace. Since social media is such a big part of getting information out. We’re trying to get information out through social media with that hashtag…Macon peace,” LJ Malone, one of the organizers said.

The Macon Peace initiative is in conjunction with Macon 30 — the challenge to a month without violence in the city.
