MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon-Bibb County crews started repaving a section of Columbus Road on Tuesday.

According to a county news release, the work runs from I-475 through Robinson Drive and is part of the county’s Paving the Way program. Professional Paving, LLC is handling the project. Weather permitting, the section is expected to be finished by Thursday, December 4.

The county is asking drivers to use an alternate route if possible. Those who travel through the area should expect delays and drive carefully around road crews.

According to the release, roads chosen for the Paving the Way program were selected based on a scan of more than 1,100 miles of county-owned roadway. Segments were evaluated on a 1–100 scale and picked using these criteria:

– Roads rated 30 and below
– Arterial and collector roads rated below 40
– Connecting roads rated 30–55
– Heavily traveled industrial routes

Mayor Lester Miller said the program focuses on repairing the worst-rated and most frequently used roads across the county.
