Cold front this weekend to bring arctic blast ahead of next week

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The week is finishing on a warming trend however a cold front passage this weekend will reverse that trend ahead of Monday.
This Evening
It’s been a sunny end to the week and temperatures have also reached their peaks for the work week this afternoon as many spots reached into the upper 60s. Tonight will be cool but not overly cold as many spots will stay above 40 degrees ahead of Saturday morning. Overhead skies will largely stay clear as the wind will continue to flow from the southwest at around 5 mph.
Tomorrow
A sunny start is likely for Saturday as temperatures will climb into the upper 60s. A few spots may get close to 70 degrees. The wind will be breezy at times from the southwest as gusts could reach to around 17 mph. Cloud cover will begin to increase during the middle of the day.
Overnight rain odds will climb, especially after midnight. A few showers may begin to move into Middle Georgia not long after sunset, however the wee hours of the night will see that activity reach its peak coverage. Rain will be light and short lived, and more than half of the region should see at least some light rain. Aside from rain skies will be cloudy with temperatures expected to remain mild with lows in the upper 40s and lower 50s. Wind will stay out of the southwest through the night, however a shift to out of the northwest should coincide with the sunrise on Sunday.
Sunday and Beyond
A few showers may still be ongoing during the sunrise hours Sunday, especially for the southern parts of the region. Those will not last and cloud cover should clear ahead of lunchtime. The wind will quickly pick up from the northwest as sustained speeds will range from 10-17 mph with gusts pushing over 30 mph. High temperatures for many spots will be not long after midnight around 60 degrees, however relative daytime highs should reach into the mid to upper 50s ahead of Sunday afternoon. Conditions will plummet from there as a blast of arctic air will invade the Peach State to begin the new week. Expect out the door temperatures Monday morning to be around 20 degrees with wind chills in the mid teens.
