Coach’s Corner: Veterans Warhawks set to begin season at brand new Freedom Field

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Last season, the Veterans Warhawks only won four games, finishing with a record of 4-7.

Despite the losing record, Veterans still qualified for the playoffs but lost in the first round to Thomson by a score of 49-35.

The Warhawks are coming off their second straight loss in the first round, with their last playoff win coming in 2013.

The school will move from Region 2-4A to Region 1-5A, and will play against Bainbridge, Harris County, Thomas County Central, and Warner Robins.

This is David Bruce’s seventh season as head coach of the Warhawks, with a combined record of 24-40.

OFFENSE:

The Warhawks will need a quarterback and a new running back.

Previous QB Logan Byrd is now at North Carolina.

Coach Bruce will try to implement a new style for his offensive line, which will also be completely new from last year.

DEFENSE:

While Veterans will lack experience on the offensive side of the ball, they will have plenty of experience defensively as they return eight starters.

FIRST GAME: August 19th, at Northgate.

FIRST HOME GAME: September 9th, versus Houston County at the brand new Freedom Field.
