Coach’s Corner: Sheddrick Risper begins 8th season as head coach of Westside

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The 2015 Westside Seminoles began the season 5-0 before finishing 5-3 in the region. Their final record was 9-4.

In the playoffs, Westside defeated Laney in the first round and Sonoraville in the second round before dropping their quarterfinal match-up against Cedar Grove by a score of 41-25.

The Seminoles will be playing in a new region, 4-AAA, which includes Central, Peach County, Jackson, Kendrick, Pike County, and Rutland.

This is head coach Sheddrick Risper’s 8th season on the sidelines. His total record at the school is 58 wins versus 22 losses.

OFFENSE:

Westside lost WR Stephen Dolphus, who will now play for Georgia Tech, and will also be without Jeremy Mitchell.

Senior QB Savion Knowlton will be returning. Knowlton passed for 1,869 yards and threw 24 touchdowns as a first year starter.

DEFENSE:

DE Abdul Davis graduated last year and will play his 2016 season with Kennesaw State.

The Seminoles will rely heavily on safety Dieuseul St. Cyr, who is the brother of Atlanta Falcons running back Devonte Freeman.

FIRST GAME: Friday, August 19th at Henderson Stadium versus Howard. Westside has never lost a game to Howard (4-0).
