Coach’s Corner: Howard Huskies show continued improvement in Barney Hester’s 4th season
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Howard Huskies have had a meteoric rise in the standings after the hiring of long-time football coach Barney Hester, barely missing the post-season in 2015.
Three years ago, the Huskies were 2-8, followed by a 3-6-1 record in 2014 before ending up 6-4 last season and just shy of that playoff berth.
Howard achieved victories over Perry and Veterans, but suffered tough losses against West Laurens and Baldwin.
They will be playing in Region 2-4A , same as last year, along with Mary Persons, Perry, West Laurens, Upson-Lee, and new addition Spalding.
This is Barney Hester’s fourth season as head coach.
The offense will be a question mark this year with quarterback Courvosier King gone. Coach Hester also says they will be in search of new running back as well.
Returning players include WR Jerin Means, and OL’s Gabe Howard and Daniel Allen.
Only a few starters are returning on defense for the Huskies, which will need to revamp the majority of it before competition starts in August.
Gabe Howard will also play on the defensive line, and LB Kyle Pioli will return.
FIRST GAME: August 19 at Henderson Stadium versus Westside.
